The read-only port every SDE provider implements. A lookup by ID answers the
record or null; a whole-table read and a foreign-key list answer every
matching record ordered by ID ascending, whatever order the export listed
them in; a search answers the records whose name contains the fragment,
case folded, up to the limit (25 by default).
